Starbucks

    On the campus of Bloomsburg University, Starbucks is a popular place to go to for students and staff to get their food and drinks. It's also right where everyone has classes so it makes it convenient to go and stop in. As you're opening the black panel glass doors to walk in you see a long line of mostly college students eager to order. They are either coming from a class that just ended or are going to one that's about to begin. When you walk in you can smell the pastries and hear the drinks that are being made for the customers. There are wood tables and chairs all in the middle that you can choose to eat at or wait for your order to be made. There is a piece of art on the wall of what looks to be the valley and sky next to where the corner table lays. It's very modern and has dark colors. There's a brick style wall behind the register that holds six menu options. Where the two registers lie on the long black counter top on the right corner there is a glass showcase of the foods that you are able to purchase and some fridge foods. Seeing students looking at the merchandise that they have, and seeing what they could possibly buy while they are getting closer to the registers. Sometimes you hear indecisive students ask each other "what drink should I get?"

The Registers 

   For this specific Starbucks it is also connected to the library so it makes it convenient for students to get what they might want while they are studying in the library. Having Starbucks right in the location that every college student on campus eventually goes to throughout the day makes it a place that you go to get something. They are busiest in the morning as students are getting coffee to wake up for their classes, but they are also busy when classes are ending and students need fuel to energize again. As you walk around campus you see a lot of college kids and staff with a Starbucks cup in their hands all day everyday. Some people you will see holding two drinks or maybe they have a drink and something to eat. Customers tend to either order some kind of refresher or an ice coffee drink. Frappuccino is also a popular one if you prefer that one over coffee. A popular place that people tend to enjoy. 

    

    As customers are ordering there are about six baristas behind the counter making drinks and food so it is very fast paced. When you get to the register they first ask you "what's the name for the order" so that they can write it on your cup or the paper that will be holding your food. Customers aren't waiting that long for their names to be called for their drinks, but their food takes a little longer as they wait for it to be warmed up. When your name is being called you are maybe given a clear cup with the green Starbucks logo if it's iced or the white paper cup that also has the green Starbucks logo if it's hot. The pastries that you might get will be given to you in a little paper bag that also has their logo on it.  When they call out your name so that you can get your order they have a sign of what's new on the menu for the season. The cake pops there are also a popular thing that customers seem to enjoy. Not most places like Starbucks tend to sell cake pops; it's not a very known thing to sell in a coffee place. 

A Frappuccino 

     At Starbuck there are a lot of things on the menu that you can get, and you can add specific things to your drink that you would like. The baristas in their green aprons have to memorize how to make all the drinks that are on the menu so that they can be prepared to make them correctly. As a new worker this could be stressful especially because of how fast paced Starbucks is. Starbucks sells about four million drinks a day to customers. There are specific seasonal drinks that you can get during that time of season that you also have to learn. Starbucks has also taken off some customer favorites and maybe not so much customer favorites to bring new choices to the table.  Training someone new can take up to a few days or two weeks, but it just depends on how fast the new employee can grasp the concept of what to expect. 

    Other Starbucks businesses around the world all tend to look and operate the same way. If you are in a rush and need to be somewhere you can always order on the app and it will be ready when you get there, so you are able to just grab it and go. You can also get deals on the app as well and see what new things they might have added to the menu. If you go to Starbucks a lot, the points that you receive using that app might also be helpful to you. Starbucks tends to have a homey type of feel. They make you feel like you can sit in there and do your work or even study for a class.
