Everything Made With Love

When you enter GFC Curry Donuts, you are greeted with a smell of coffee traveling through the air. As you approach the small coffee shop, you instantly notice the huge menu behind the smiling employee. The noise of the tv playing behind conversations lingering throughout the shop. Plastic booths are strategically placed around the store in order to admire the natural light rushing through the windows. The person greeting you behind the counter is none other than Christine Tsioles, the hardest working woman around.

"If you love what you are doing you are going to succeed, if you don't like it get out!" Exclaimed Christine Tsioles in her Greek accent. Curry Donuts has been run by the Tsioles family since 1971, and has been a household name ever since. They moved here from Greece in the late 60s and Christine's father worked at a Dunkin Donuts, which in turn gave them their knowledge on the coffee and doughnuts business. There are over 10 Curry Donuts within Northeastern Pennsylvania each of them owned by the Tsioles Family.

GFC Curry Donuts in particular is owned by Christine Tsioles, and is the same Curry Donuts but with different menu items. "I get up at three in the morning go to the baker and pick the doughnuts up. We have been working with that doughnut baker for 30 years." Mrs. Tsioles works 7 days a week from 3:30am to 7:00pm, she puts her life into this restaurant.

Christine Tsioles is a shorter woman with brown hair, glasses, and a can do attitude.  A humble person who wouldn't even want a single picture taken of her. If you needed something, she would be there for you without a doubt. Her work speaks for itself when you see her smiling and serving quality products. She is the heart of Curry Donuts that supplies everything for it keep on going.

An older man comes in every Saturday to order 3 piggy soups. Mrs. Tsioles makes this soup homemade and has a different soup every day. Her sister taught her all the delicious recipes the customers have grown to love. Many customers enjoy coming to lunch and getting the soup and a sandwich.

"I come here every day, and you know my buddies and I socialize over our coffee and doughnuts," mumbled an older man with squinty eyes. "I only drink this coffee, it is decaf with cream and splenda... my favorite," the older man explained. Mrs. Tsioles has friendly staff on hand which makes it easier for customers to make Curry Donuts their daily rendezvous.

A middle aged man walked into the shop, and ordered a smoothie. He is a regular customer that works as a janitor for the local high school.  He ordered a green smoothie and he wanted peanuts inside the smoothie, which normally is not put inside of the smoothie.

"Christine, what should I do, he wants peanuts in the green smoothie," whispered the employee. Mrs. Tsioles quickly turned around to answer her question.

"Of course he can have the peanuts in his smoothie!" Mrs. Tsioles exclaimed. She stopped what she was doing to go and talk to the customer. The employee then made the smoothie with the peanuts added to it.

"If this smoothie is good, I want it on the menu... The Madonna Special (his last name)." The customer
said in a nasally tone.

"Well tell us how it is with the peanuts, so we know for next time," replied Mrs. Tsioles. The customer was now on his way out of the restaurant.

"You be good now!" yelled the employee towards the customer in a sarcastic tone.

Green smoothie
"Be good... well you ruined my day." replied the customer.

"why?" The employee questioned the customer.

"I don't want to be good!" The customer shouted as he left the store. Mrs. Tsioles and the employee started to giggle to each other about what had happened.

Earlier in the week Mrs. Tsioles reminisced on a strange occurrence that she had experienced. In 50 years in the coffee business, she has never had witnessed anything to this extremity. She was whispering, so no one would hear her and said:

"I was opening the store, and there was a naked man crying outside near the drive through window," Mrs. Tsioles whispered for no one else to hear. "I opened the drive-through window and asked if he was okay. I didn't want to judge him or be rude, I just wanted to get him out of the cold. He told me that he was lost... then he started crying, so I eventually got his wife's phone number and called her. While he was waiting, I gave him a blanket through the window. His wife showed up, and he was gone. I was just so shocked that there was a naked man outside at 5 in the morning." Normally someone would call the police over something like this, but Mrs. Tsioles wanted to just help the man in her parking lot.

Curry Donuts would not be here today if there was not the family experience that the shop has. The employees know exactly who you are, and want to know how you are doing. Mrs. Tsioles proves time and time again that this restaurant is run by hard work and excellent customer service. The shop keeps changing and offering plenty of new things to their repertoire; it is not just coffee and doughnuts anymore.
